FEATURED SPEAKER

John Ireland, Founder and CEO, Iterative Search

If you’ve ever had to work on a long, complicated research project, you know how frustrating search engines can be. Every time you conduct a search, you are basically starting over—every search is a new launch point. Iterative Search is a technology that addresses that problem by allowing users to save searches, build on them, archive them, and add notes as needed. This maximizes not only the efficiency of the search effort but the quality of the results. It also creates a repository of institutional knowledge that team members can share.

It’s a technology that just about anyone who utilizes Google could benefit from, but getting people to understand what it is and how it works is a challenge. Bringing a tech product to market involves explaining it in the simplest possible terms without selling it short. It’s a marketing challenge we are going to explore at our next MIT Enterprise Forum.

John Ireland currently serves as CEO of Iterative Search. After earning both his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and his master’s degree in biochemical engineering from Brown University, he began his career as a biochemical engineer for Life Sciences Inc. He now holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School, and he has an extensive background in business development.  John founded an internet startup in the oil and gas market, Downstream Energy, focusing on communication between oil refineries and their wholesale marketers. Later in his career, he helped a small consulting service focusing on the facilities on college and university campuses grow from a small regional player to a national standard.  In addition to consulting, John has held positions as CEO, CFO, COO, and head of Business Development.

MODERATOR

Cheryl Rice, Principal, Rice Communications

Cheryl has worked in media and marketing for nearly three decades. She began her career as a writer and producer of TV commercials and programming, and after stints in management at stations in Tennessee, West Virginia, and Connecticut, she transitioned to corporate communications. Over the next several years, she was responsible for developing strategic marketing programs for prominent Connecticut-based businesses including Kaman Industrial Technologies and Loctite Corporation. Her experience on both the client side and the media side gives Cheryl a unique insight into the priorities of both, and developing communication strategies that bridge that gap is now her specialty.
