“The City that Feeds Itself”

Trifecta Ecosystems is on a mission to create the “City that Feeds Itself,” where hidden groups of urban farmers feed their communities and themselves. Trifecta operates out of their flagship indoor urban farm at 290 Pratt Street, Meriden, which includes an indoor commercial aquaponics farm, a second research farm, a commercial kitchen, event space, and retail store selling all of the best local food and sundries Connecticut has to offer.

Trifecta’s flagship WeeklyHarvest program aggregates food from Connecticut’s top providers of high-quality, locally, and sustainably produced foods and pairs them with aquaponic produce is grown to create year-round food subscriptions. Their latest offering is a salad subscription plan for individuals or corporations to get prepared salads delivered weekly to the office.

PRESENTER

Kiernan Foran, Chief Marketing Officer, Trifecta Ecosystems

Kieran Foran is the Chief Marketing Officer and co-founder of Trifecta Ecosystems, an aquaponics farm, and technology company based in Meriden, CT. Kiernan graduated from Northeastern University in 2012 with a B.S in Political Science and concentration in law and legal issues.

He quickly put his degree to good use by starting an aquaponics farm in the backyard of his co-founder and college roommate Spencer Curry. Kieran and Spencer started with a vision of simply having a hobby that could make them some money on the side. However, that vision quickly expanded as their first aquaponics system produced more food than they knew what to do with. They started selling produce to family and friends and quickly had to expand to farmers’ markets.

From there they used their profits to build a commercial aquaponics farm and soon were getting attention both for their food and for their unique method of farming. They began hosting field trips and tours and saw the potential of aquaponics as a tool for empowering others to learn using aquaponics as the tool and began to envision a model where aquaponics could connect various groups like schools and nonprofits to their community through the production of food. And that’s when they formed Trifecta Ecosystems.
